Apply to be an Intern

At Matters of the Heart Counseling we believe in providing a quality internship/practicum to students who wish to pursue a career in therapy.  Interns receive supervision as part of their course curriculum and are closely supervised by a clinician at Matters of the Heart.  Interns observe and co-facilitate therapy sessions working towards the opportunity to manage their own caseload of up to 8-10 clients.  We closely monitor all sessions provided by interns as they are implementing what they have learned in classes to real life situations.  Our interns also allow us to offer low cost therapy for those who may need therapy and struggle to afford it.

To apply to be an intern at our office please contact Karen Mummau directly at Karenmummau@counselingmail.com and provide a resume and cover letter stating why you are interested in a placement with Matters of the Heart Counseling.  We only accept interns who are able to spend at least two consecutive semesters with us.  It is recommended you apply to be an intern by March for the Fall semester and by August for the Spring semester.  We accept up to two interns a year and the intern’s schedule needs to be flexible.  We do not provide a paid internship experience and you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of therapists in various areas of expertise.  We are generally able to provide a group experience as well as the individual experience.  Matters of the Heart Counseling has worked with students from Messiah University, Penn West, and Millersville in the past.  We are open to working with students in a Master of Counseling program or Master of Social Work program.
