Mental Health has a way of separating us from others, creating ruptures and difficulties in relationships.  We are meant to live in relationship with others, so we need to understand how it has changed our perspective of ourselves and others.  Until we have identified successful ways to work through our mental health concerns, we are limited in our ability to be authentic in relationship.

I utilize a person-centered approach to understand how my client views themselves and the world around them,  I find that insight into our selves and the ways we function create the motivation that we need to work through overwhelming and devastating issues.

It is my mission to help individuals connected with the adoptive and foster care communities build effective relationships.  When we can be truly known, we can feel safe and build our own sense of worth.

Experience

I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and a proud alumnus of Trevecca Nazarene University, where I earned my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Since graduating, I've assisted families, worked in school-based counseling, supervised in-home teams, and helped individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. My expertise spans trauma, depression, and anxiety.

On a more personal note, I'm an adoptive father of two children who've come home through international adoption. I'm also a former foster parent.

Client Focus

Adoptive and Foster Care community Individuals 10 years old and older.   I also work with these couples and families and can provide pre-foster/adoption counseling. I lead and coordinate our adoption and foster care support groups.

Individual Focused - EMDR trained - Talk Therapy - Attachment Based - Creative and Play Interventions (as appropriate) -Christian Faith Based as requested

More than just work

I feel a sense of ease when I work on jigsaw puzzles or color.

I am a trained facilitator in high and low ropes challenge courses.

I enjoy outside activities, especially when I can help others to learn about themselves.
