Therapy for Individuals and Children Seeking Healing and Restoration Serving Pennsylvania

Welcome to Matters of the Heart Counseling

Counseling Services Provided Across the Lifespan.

Life rarely moves in a straight line. Whether your child is navigating school anxiety, you are managing a major life transition, or your family is walking through a season of grief, you don’t have to carry it alone.

At Matters of the Heart Counseling, we provide evidence-based, compassionate therapy designed to meet you exactly where you are. We believe that emotional well-being is essential across the entire lifespan—from early childhood through the golden years.

Whatever your heart is carrying, we are here to offer a safe, confidential space to heal, grow, and thrive.

What We Do

We offer a comprehensive spectrum of care designed to strengthen relationships at every stage and support families through life’s toughest challenges.

1. Quality Therapy

Matters of the Heart Counseling provides comprehensive, lifespan-focused mental health services designed to support individuals, couples, and families through every stage of life. The practice combines evidence-based therapeutic modalities with a compassionate, non-judgmental environment to promote healing, emotional growth, and long-term resilience.

Core Areas of Care

  • Child & Adolescent Counseling: Specialized care addressing childhood anxiety, behavioral challenges, academic stress, peer dynamics, and self-esteem through engaging, age-appropriate methods like play and expressive arts therapy.

  • Adult Psychotherapy: Tailored support for individuals navigating life transitions, career burnout, clinical anxiety, depression, relationship distress, and trauma recovery.

2. Biofeedback Programs

Healing isn't just emotional; it’s physiological. We provide biofeedback (Heart Rate Variability and HEG/PIR Neurofeedback) therapy an innovative treatment that helps individuals and family members regulate stress, manage anxiety, and train the body’s nervous system to respond to life with calm and resilience rather than reactivity.  Biofeedback is a non medication based holistic approach to mental health we encourage and support.

3. Comprehensive Adoptive Family Supports

No family should have to navigate difficult seasons alone. Adoption is hard and families often feel alone in the journey. We offer wraparound resources designed to equip and encourage every member of the household:

  • Support Groups: Safe, facilitated spaces to share experiences, reduce isolation, and build community with others walking a similar path.

  • 1-on-1 Coaching: Practical, goal-oriented guidance to help adoptive parents, adult adoptees, and couples.  Elaine Shenk is our Adoption Program Director and is trained in TBRI and an adoptive parent.

  • Family Education: Workshops and seminars covering crucial topics like communication, conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and neurodiversity support.
