Mike, Hillary, Dan, Macy and Casie work with couples in therapy sessions to help develop the necessary skills needed to maintain sustaining love and increase communication. Hillary focuses her couples session with those who have addiction in their family. Dan specializes in working with couples and families walking the journey of adoption. Our therapy model offers couples an extended session as most find the typical 45-50 minutes is not long enough to work through difficult topics. Our couples sessions are 75 minutes in length allowing for further depth and movement in sessions.
Can we use insurance for couples therapy?
This is a common question and not easily answered. Insurances tend to be a bit vague about how to manage couples therapy and billing. In order to bill any insurance for couples/family counseling we will there must be ONE identified client with a mental health diagnosis and the session notes must reflect the goals/work in session is being done to support that mental health diagnosis. The session length when using insurance is 45-52 minutes. If you fall into the aforementioned scenario where one person has a diagnosis and the sessions revolve around that diagnosis, we will bill insurance if we are in network and you are working with a therapist who accepts your insurance. An example of this scenario is: spouse has bipolar disorder and the sessions revolve around the difficulties the disorder creates in the marriage and helping to support that spouse with the diagnosis.
