Steve Costa, LCSW
Outpatient Therapist
Problem/Solution/Result:
I have often reflected on how messy life can become when thinking of my own situation or speaking with others. The struggles of living can get quite painful and it may be hard to understand what is happening or how to get to a calmer, more peaceful place.
At times the decision to enter counseling can seem scary. I view the counselor’s role primarily as accompanying clients so that they don’t feel so alone as they try to understand what’s happening and seek to feel safe while sorting things out.
For me, therapy is about offering to the client my skills, training and presence so that a challenging situation can become manageable in a way that makes sense and works for them. The objective is for the client to feel stronger, less vulnerable and more self-assured as they advance on their sometimes “messy” journey.
